Generally students entering Kindergarten will hopefully use one of the above grasps on their pencil or crayon. Activities that promote good hand strength and endurance are, scissor cutting with control, pinch and pull activities with play dough or putty, fine in hand manipulation of small objects such as popcorn, raisins, M & M's, Skittles or pennies.
The hand writing program used throughout the RSU is the Handwriting Without Tears® program. This program is started in Pre-K and used through fourth grade. This is a structured program that has worked well to transition students from print to cursive.
